Meteora-Santorini-Athens photography tour
A quite challenging photography trip in Greece was requested by a travel agency based in China, a few months before its realization. It would be a combination of all our three photogenic destinations, Meteora, Santorini and Athens. The total duration of the trip would be 9 days. The group was pretty big and was consisted of ten photographers, with some very skilled and dedicated ones among them.
Here is the applied schedule.
Day 1: arriving in Athens airport. Immediate departure to Meteora with a 15 seats mini van.
Arriving in Meteora, accommodation in Divani Meteora Hotel.
Day 2: photography workshop in the hotel’s conference room. Presentation of basic photographic techniques, basic camera functions, setting our goals and expectations.
Visiting Varlaam monastery and photo shooting in the area around it.
Afternoon photo shooting in a panoramic view spot, until one hour after sunset. Milky way test shooting.
Day 3: Photo shooting of Holy Trinity monastery and suroundings.
Continuing the session in another panoramic view spot.
Photo shooting and guided tour in both Roussanou and Great Meteoron monasteries.
Evening photo session in Saint Stephen monastery area.
Night photography of Kalambaka city from the top of Meteora cliffs.
Milky way shooting with Saint Stephen monastery as foreground.
Day 4: Departure from Meteora after breakfast. Destination Delfi for a quick guided tour and photo shooting in the ancient temple.
Departure to Athens airport, flying to Santorini island.
Accommodation in El Greco Hotel, Fira village, Santorini.
Day 5: Meeting in hotel’s conference room for an introduction about Santorini volcanic history and its photographic uniqueness.
Walking and photo shooting in Fira. Having a first impression of Santorini breathtaking view, architecture and photography potentials.
Driving to Oia. Here is the photographer’s paradise! Walking and photography session in this amazing scenery. Trying to find the optimum sunset and after sunset spots.
Night photography from panoramic view point.
Day 6: Driving to Oia for morning photography session. Walking on the narrow alleys and discovering interesting spots and unexpected themes (like parkour athletes in action).
Driving to wine museum close to Fira. This one of a kind museum is nested 8 meters below ground and represents the wine making history in a 300m long natural labyrinth. Among other interests its lighting is a challenge for photographers.
After finishing, wine tasting follows.
Walking and photographing from Fira to Firostefani village.
Afternoon, sunset and night photo shooting in Oia village. Experimental time lapse photography.
Day 7: Free morning.
Enjoying hotel facilities (swimming pool), having funny photo shootings and shopping in Fira village.
Boat trip to Athens.
Accommodation in Stanley Hotel, in the center of Athens.
Day 8: Sunrise photo session of Acropolis and Athens city from Filopappou hill. This hill is the optimum place to capture Acropolis while it is still illuminated and the sunrise atmosphere of Athens city.
Photo session in the Adrian’s Gate and the temple of Olympian Zeus .
Walking and photographing Plaka and Monastiraki districts.
Going on top of Lycabettus Hill with cable car.
Panoramic and sunset photo shooting of Athens city from the top of the hill.
Day 9: Walking in Monastiraki square and visiting its antique market. Capturing the unique character of this place. Walking in nearby districts which are full of picturesque spots and ancient monuments.
Meeting in Hotel’s conference room for our final presentation regarding advanced photoshop techniques.
Afterwards all members of the group presented their best photos which we analyzed and commented on.
Those pictures were remarkably beautiful, story telling and artistically well developed.
It was definitely an amazing experience for all of us that will remain unforgettable!
We visited so many unique yet different places in such a short time!
